Fairchild first appeared in Search for Tomorrow on CBS as Jennifer Pace between 1973 and 1977. She made her debut on the primetime soap opera Dallas as the first actress in history to play Jenna Wade before taking a part in the lead role of the NBC show Flamingo Road in 1980 (for which she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Television Series Drama). Fairchild was on ABC's short primetime soap Paper Dolls and also in Falcon Crest in 1985-86 as Jordan Roberts.
